Secrets of the Globe Theatre
5 November 2008
Sold Out
Designed by the notorious Dr John Dee, the original Globe Theatre was built in 1599 by the actors group the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, to which Shakespeare belonged. On our tour of the Globe, we learn about its dramatic beginnings including the fire that destroyed it in 1613. It was rebuilt the following year but officially closed by the Puritans in 1642 and demolished two years later. The building we see today was opened in 1997 and is a reconstruction of the original theatre. Our guided tour also includes a visit to the ‘Shakespeare’s Globe’ exhibition, which explores the life of Shakespeare and the London where he lived.
