Paths to Fame: Turner Watercolours at the Courtauld Gallery
19 November 2008
Sold Out
Friends are invited on a special guided tour of this exhibition, which is the first full display of the Courtauld Gallery’s outstanding collection of watercolours by J. M. W. Turner, including rarely seen watercolours bequeathed to the Courtauld in 2007 by Dorothy Scharf. Focusing specifically on Turner’s use of watercolour in his travel sketches, we see how his technique, observation of light effects and portrayal of the sublime fostered new developments in landscape painting. The tour contextualises his work by including landscapes by Rubens, Cézanne, Pissarro and Monet.
10–11.30am; meet at Somerset House, Strand, London WC2; SOLD OUT
