North Wales Tour

7 — 9 October 2010
Friends Only

Our annual autumn tour takes us to the far reaches of North Wales. Based in the charming Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno, we will visit a number of important homes in this unique area. These include Penrhyn Castle, the neo-Norman castle built by Thomas Hopper with its collection of old-master paintings; Bodelwyddan Castle, home to significant works from the National Portrait Gallery’s nineteenth-century collection; and Plas Newydd, home of the Marquess of Anglesey and famous for its Rex Whistler paintings. We also visit Portmeirion, the singular village created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis in 1925, and the Royal Cambrian Academy of Arts, which was established in 1881 and is the centre for artistic excellence in Wales.
