Kensal Green Cemetery
13 October 2008
Friends Only
Inspired by the Père-Lachaise cemetery in Paris and founded in 1833 by the Barrister George Frederick Carden, Kensal Green was the first commercial cemetery in London. On our private tour we learn about the cemetery’s unique design and visit the Grade 1 listed Anglican Chapel and its catacombs. Over 1,500 notable personalities have been buried in the cemetery, including the architect Decimus Burton, the poet Thomas Hood and many Royal Academicians including William Mulready, whose monument the RA is currently helping to restore.
2–4pm; £16 (includes tea); meet at Anglican Chapel in centre of cemetery, Harrow Rd, London W10
