Friends spend the day in the picturesque village of Ditchling. We visit the Ditchling Museum, set up in 1985 by Hilary and Joanna Bourne to tell the story of the artists and craftspeople who lived and worked there, the most famous being the artist Eric Gill. Gill’s arrival in Ditchling in 1907 inspired the creation of a vibrant community of craftspeople.

Museum Director Hilary Williams leads our tour, which includes the exhibition ‘Drawn from Ditchling: Portraits from a Sussex Village’, which contains several works by Gill. We also explore the village, including the parish church and the workshop of the silversmith Anton Pruden whose grandfather was Gill’s contemporary.
