Bevis Marks is the oldest and most significant synagogue in the UK still in use today. Built in 1699 by Joseph Avis, this Grade I listed building strongly resembles the Great Amsterdam Synagogue of 1677. One of the synagogue’s most prominent features is the beautiful Renaissance-style ark. Curator Maurice Bitton leads our tour and we learn about the architecture and interiors of this unique building, as well as the role of the early Jewish community in London.
