In the last fifty years the basic tenets of mid-twentieth-century analyses of Palladio’s architecture have been accepted, popularized, expanded and mutated, but have also been subject to critique. This symposium re-examines these interpretations of Palladio’s architectural production – both his built and written work – seeking to locate them within their historiographical contexts. The aim is to look at different aspects of Palladio’s continuing impact and effect, and reflect on the contemporary relevance of his distinct architectural tradition.
The film Palladio: The Architect and his Influence in America (1977) by James Ackerman and John Terry will be screened between the first session of presentations and the final roundtable discussion. The roundtable discussion will be moderated by MaryAnne Stevens, Jeremy Melvin and Marina Lathouri.
