From Constantinople to St Petersburg

Russian and Byzantine Luxuries

Examine some of the artistic and cultural riches of the Russian and Byzantine empires, two of the most powerful empires in Christendom. This event accompanies Byzantium 330–1453 and the V&A's exhibition Magnificence of the Tsars: Ceremonial Men's Dress of the Russian Imperial Court, 1721–1917. Speakers examine Byzantine mosaics, Orthodox icons, illuminated manuscripts, Imperial court dress, jewellery and the celebrated Fabergé eggs. Speakers include Professor Liz James, David Buckton, Deirdre Murphy, Roja Dove and Tony Faber as well as Byzantium 330–1453 curator Professor Robin Cormack.
