Joseph Cornell
Learn about Joseph Cornell’s intuitive attitude towards collage and study the works in the RA exhibition ‘Joseph Cornell: Wanderlust’ to inspire your own collages in this hands-on course.
During this three part course, artist educator Andy Malone will guide you through different approaches to collage and Joseph Cornell: Wanderlust exhibition curator, Sarah Lea, will provide insights into the artist's work.
The first session begins with a gallery tour of Joseph Cornell: Wanderlust by Sarah Lea to give participants an overview of the artist’s ideas and techniques in front of the works. After this, participants will return to the studio to explore a range of stimulating collage materials and structures, including some with kinetic elements. The second session will be a practical workshop investigating collage processes for which a box frame and an exciting selection of mixed media materials will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own memorabilia to this session to make the work personal to them. In the final class, you will use the skills you have learned to create a finished piece to take away, and end the evening with a glass of wine.
Andy Malone lives and works in Whitstable, Kent and has been making and exhibiting books and collages since 2007. He has exhibited at The London Art Book Fair at the ICA in 2007 and the Whitechapel since 2010 as well as at Book Art Fairs and events in the UK, Hungary, Minnesota , Russia and Denmark, Turner Contemporary in Margate and at the Whitstable Biennale.
He has work in the Tate Britain collection and in a number of Artists Book collections around the world and sells work through the Victoria and Albert Museum shop, Marc Jacobs Bookmarc, Book Art Bookshop in London and Boekie Woekie in Amsterdam.
