Life Drawing
Two Day Practical Class
Tuesday 17 March - Wednesday 18 March 2015
Life Room, Royal Academy Schools, Burlington House
£280
Friends of the RA book first
During this two-day workshop, you will explore a range of different approaches to life drawing in the RA’s historic Life Room. Led by multi-award winning artist and tutor Francis Bowyer, participants will also have an opportunity to view life drawings from the RA’s extensive collection.
10.30am – 4.30pm each day.
Starting with studies of the female figure, with reference to movement through drawing a series of short poses, participants will go on to study longer poses to explore the figure in movement. The class will then have the opportunity to visit the RA Library to look at life drawings from the RA Collection, and also have their work critiqued.
The male figure will be studied on the second day of the course, and the tutor will pay particular attention to tone. There will be a number of exercises to show how light and shadow affect the form of the figure, and while there will be a number of short poses, this session will concentrate predominantly upon longer poses.
Guided by artist Francis Bowyer, this course will broaden your approach to the way the figure can be portrayed. Over the two days, you will gain an appreciation of tone, form and colour.
Francis Bowyer has taught drawing and painting at all levels up to post-graduate, and currently teaches at the RA Schools. He exhibits regularly at the New English Art Club and Royal Watercolour Society where he was President from 2000 to 2003. Francis won the Arts Club Prize at the 226th RA Summer Exhibition and his work is in the Royal Collection and H.R.H. The Prince of Wales Collection. He was a war artist and travelled to Camp Bastion, Afghanistan in 2013.
Art materials, tea and coffee and lunches will be provided.
We are also holding the same course on the 11 and 12 April.
