Wolfang Tillmans studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art (1990 – 1992). He was the first photographer and non-British artist to win the Turner Prize (2000) and was awarded the Kulturpreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Photographie in 2009.

Born in Remscheid, Germany, he held his first exhibitions in Hamburg, before moving to London in the 1990s where he soon became known for his intimate photographs, documenting his life and capturing the social and political nuances of youth culture at the time.

One of the most influential photographers of his generation, he draws on a diverse range of subject matter and techniques, configuring works of varying scales and materiality in non-hierarchical site-specific installations.

He is engaged with the processes of photography, pioneering the use of advanced lens- based and digital printing technology, and using camera-less chemical processes to create subtle abstracts works.

In 2013 alone he exhibited in Germany, UK, France, and Chile, and in 2014 had a solo exhibition at Wako Works of Art, Tokyo, Japan.
