Royal Academicians
From William Chambers to Zaha Hadid, architects have been leading Members of the Royal Academy since its foundation in 1768. This season sees a lecture by newly elected Royal Academician, Ron Arad, and an event with Paul Koralek RA and fellow ABK partners, Peter Ahrends and Richard Burton, reflecting on the practice’s work and the underlying ‘purpose of architecture’.

Monday 28 October
Recently elected as a Royal Academician, Ron Arad Arad first gained international recognition with a number of now seminal chair designs, fusing high-tech materials with found objects with a sculptural force that also characterises his architectural works such as the Design Museum in Holon and Médiacité in Liège. ABK was founded by fellow Architectural Association graduates, Peter Ahrends and Richard Burton and Paul Koralek RA in 1961, after winning a competition to design the Berkeley Library at Trinity College, Dublin.
