Mexico Past and Present

Mexfest logo In conjunction with the exhibition, Mexico: A Revolution in Art, 1910–1940 , a series of events explores Mexican architectural culture, past and present. An opening Forum considers how Mexico’s Mayan heritage was deployed by modernist architects across America. The following week, a discussion on the intriguing relationship between Mexican art and architecture during the twentieth century heralds talks by two of Mexico’s leading architects, in association with London MexFest .

Warren Carter, Greg Votolato and Julia Bailey explore the various ways US artists and architects working in the 1920s and 1930s, including Frank Lloyd Wright, were inspired by Mexico’s Mayan heritage, and how the advent of modernism allowed that past to be considered – and deployed – in innovative ways.
