Mali Morris was born in North Wales and studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, BA (1963-68) and the University of Reading, MFA (1968–1970).

Her concentrated compositions engage the viewer in the contemplation of pure abstraction. She configures colours and shapes in unexpected relationships and uses controlled brushstrokes to create luminous effects.

Her first major solo exhibitions were at the Serpentine Summer Show 3, 1977 and the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, 1979. Since then she has shown extensively in many solo and group exhibitions: Whitechapel Gallery, Serpentine Gallery, Hayward Gallery, the Barbican and John Moores, Liverpool, as well as overseas.

She has received awards from the Arts Council, British Council, DAIWA Anglo-Japanese Foundation, GLAA, Elephant Trust and the Sunny Dupree Family Award, Summer Exhibition 2009
