Norman Ackroyd's solo show 'Norman Ackroyd: Recent Etchings' is on at the Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk (19–24 Nov). He also shows 'Galápagos' at The Sainsbury Laboratory, University of Cambridge

Gillian Ayres shows works on paper at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath (11 Feb–21 March)

Basil Beattie will be showing large-scale paintings in a major retrospective, ‘Onward and Upward. Twenty-five Years of Work (1986 – 2011)’, at James Hyman Fine Art, London (18 Nov–21 Jan 2012)

Tony Bevan’s ‘Self-Portraits’ is at the National Portrait Gallery, London (until 11 Dec)

Elizabeth Blackadder’s solo show is at the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh (until 2 Jan, 2012)

Maurice Cockrill shows 'Works on Paper from Five Decades' in the Sir Hugh Casson Room for Friends at the Royal Academy of Arts, London (until 30 Nov)

Fred Cuming's new works are on display at Thompson’s, Marylebone (7-23 Dec)

Tacita Dean's installation ‘FILM’ is the 12th Unilever Series commission for Tate Modern's Turbine Hall (until 11 March, 2012). Her film ‘Mario Merz’ (2002) is on view at the Henry Moore Sculpture Institute, Leeds (until 4 Dec)

An exhibition to celebrate Anne Desmet's election to the Royal Academy is at the Hart Gallery, London (8-28 Dec)

Tracey Emin opens her shop ‘Emin International’, in Spitalfields, London, in December

Peter Freeth takes part in "In the Beginning" at the Marle Gallery in Axminster, Devon (3 Dec–21 Jan)

Anthony Green has solo shows at Chenderit School, Banbury (until 13 Dec) and Rye Art Gallery, East Sussex (18 Feb–24 March, 2012)

David Hockney’s ‘Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy’ (1970-71) is the ‘Masterpiece of the Month’ at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, London (until 4 Dec); he also has a new book ‘David Hockney: A Bigger Message’ (Thames & Hudson)

Paintings by Ken Howard and photographs by Dora Howard are in the Café Gallery from 25 Nov 2011 until 6 Feb 2012.

Paul Huxley has made a wall drawing for Charing Cross Hospital, London (until 28 Feb 2012)

Timothy Hyman has been appointed as artist in residence at the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre attached to Charing Cross Hospital, with a brief to ‘capture the life of the centre’.

Bill Jacklin shows work at the Marlborough Gallery, New York (14 Feb–17 March, 2012)

Tess Jaray is working on interior and exterior paving for residential apartments in Fitzrovia, London

Michael Landy’s poster project ‘Acts of Kindness’ can be seen in Central Line tube stations across London until 2012

Christopher Le Brun’s limited edition book ‘Poems Paintings’, which features watercolours alongside poems selected by the artist, has been published (Editions Moon Rainbow)

Ian McKeever’s show ‘Paintings from the Twelve/Standing Series, 2009-11’ is at Schaltwerk Kunst, Hamburg (3 Feb–3 March 2012)

Humphrey Ocean's solo show ‘Here and There’ is at Jesus College, Cambridge (until 8 Dec)

‘The Road’, an exhibition of paintings by Hughie O’Donoghue is at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art, Prague (until 12 Dec).

Grayson Perry curates ‘The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman’ at the British Museum, London (until 19 Feb, 2012)

Stephen Chambers, Stephen Farthing and Mali Morris have been invited to show works in The Perfect Nude (100 Artists Paint the Nude) at Wimbledon Space, London (13 Jan – 10 Feb 2012)

Sculptors

Ivor Abrahams’s retrospective ‘Eden and Other Suburbs’ is at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol (12 Jan–4 March)

Phyllida Barlow takes part in 'Sculptural Acts' (group show) at Haus der Kunst, Munich (11 Nov 2011- 26 Feb 2012), 'Before the Law' (group show) at Museum Ludwig, Cologne and Siemens Foundation (17 Dec 2011 - 22 April 2012)

John Carter’s solo show ‘Between Dimensions’ is at Galerie La Ligne, Zürich (until 26 Nov)

Ann Christopher shows in ‘The Force and Form of Memory’ at Scottish National Football Museum, Hampden Glasgow (21 Nov–12 Jan) then the Smith Art Gallery & Museum, Stirling (16 Jan-14 March 2012) then the Fergus Gallery, Wick (17 March - 14 April)

Richard Deacon’s solo show ‘Dead Leg’ is at the University of New Mexico Art Museum, Albuquerque, US (until 18 Dec).

Antony Gormley's work ‘Flare II’ is installed in Salisbury Cathedral (until 2 April, 2012) as well as ‘Horizon Field’ in Vorarlberg, Austria (until April, 2012). His work ‘Witness’ will be installed permanently in the British Library piazza on 13 Dec

Anish Kapoor has become a mentor for the Rolex mentor and protégé scheme. His work ‘Sky Mirror’ (2010) is on show in Aviva Court, London (until 29 Jan, 2012). He is designing a mobile concert hall to bring music and performance arts to the areas of northern Japan devastated by the earthquake and tsunami earlier in 2011. The structure is being built in collaboration with the Japanese architect, and Honorary RA Arata Isozaki. Programming begins in spring 2012.

Phillip King has a solo show at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, San Antonio, Texas (1 Dec–12 Feb, 2012). His sculpture ‘Blue Slicer L’ is installed at the University of the Arts Library, Taipei, Taiwan on 29 Nov. His sculpture, ‘Darwin’, is installed at Christ’s College, Cambridge in November, and ‘Darwin II’ at the Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood in spring 2012.

Richard Long's Artists Room is at the Abbot Hall, Kendal (until 17 Dec)

John Maine’s work at Green Park Tube station has been unveiled. His show ‘Artists’ Laboratory 04’ is at the RA (9 Nov–18 Dec).

David Nash shows works at the Oriel Mostyn gallery in Llandudno, (until 12 Nov)

Cornelia Parker curates ‘Richard of York Gave Battle In Vain’: a selection of works from the Government Art Collection at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (until 4 Dec)

Richard Wilson is making a 100m-long sculpture for BAA’s Heathrow Terminal 2 Central Court, to be completed in spring 2014

Architects

Will Alsop and Scott Laurie have set up a new practice called ALL Design.

David Chipperfield Hepworth Wakefield has won Best Architectural Achievement category at the British Design Awards 2011. He has also won the first Critics’ Circle Visual Arts and Architecture award.

Norman Foster and Spencer de Grey’s firm Foster+Partners has unveiled designs for Kuwait International Airport and will also design the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences in Jerusalem.

Nicholas Grimshaw's firm has created the John Lewis ‘Fashion Pavilion’, a touring architectural retail installation in the Oxford Street store, London. His new book ‘Grimshaw, Architecture: The First 30 Years’ is published by Prestel.

Zaha Hadid has won the 2011 Stirling Prize for the Evelyn Grace Academy in Brixton – the first school building ever to win. Her exhibition ‘Zaha Hadid: Form in Motion’ is at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, US (until 25 March, 2012). She has also designed the Roca London Gallery.

Eva Jiricna is a judge for the World Architecture News Awards

Ann Christopher and Ian Ritchie reached the finals with their design for a pylon in the National Grid Pylon Design Competition. Ian Ritchie Architects’ design for the Sainsbury Wellcome Centre at University College London has received planning permission.

Richard Rogers is designing a walkway to run over the roof of the O2 Centre, London
