Immediately to the west of the Saloon, The Lee and James C Slaughter Room forms part of the enfilade initiated in Burlington's 1717-22 scheme and fully realised by Ware in 1818. Created out of two smaller rooms, this enlarged, two-bay space has a decorated ceiling by Kent representing Jupiter's consent to the marriage of Cupid and Psyche. The restrained neoclassical mantelpiece may be one of the few survivors of Carr of York's alterations made shortly after 1770.
